This Centennial D was originally built in NY in 1880.  It was restored by Alex Kostakis, owner of A.C. Pianocraft in New York.  The piano has been COMPLETELY restored to AS-NEW condition.
THIS piano also has been displayed and used at the Metropolitan Opera for the Italian opera "Federo" from December 2022 through February, 2023.  (We will attach a video in comments section) 
Before I posted this, I looked online to see what other Centennial D's had sold for... and I saw MANY that were advertised as "Centennial D's" but in reality they were not.  A true Centennial does NOT have an exposed pinblock, it has a FULL plate, a modern action, a true sostenuto pedal, AND it is 88 notes.  Again, only 424 were ever made, and they were made between 1876 and 1883.    THIS is one of them!  
The Centennial was designed for exhibition at the 1876 World's Fair, held in Philadelphia, PA.  The Centennial D won the competition for pianos, and this propelled the Steinway brand to the forefront worldwide as the leader in innovation amongst piano manufacturers.

This piano has been meticulously been restored, using the Old World techniques and craftsmanship that is simply not available in today's piano market.  Only a handful of piano shops in the world are capable of work of this caliber.
A bit about the rebuilder:  
A.C. Pianocraft was founded in 1966 by Ted Kostakis, which was Alex's father.  For 6 decades, they were one of the premier piano restoration facilities, not only in the Northeastern USA, but in the WORLD.  Their client list is impressive, and their work is of the absolute highest quality.   Alex has unfortunately decided to retire, and has chosen our company to help him liquidate his final inventory.  We are truly honored to do so.  This is the first of several high end Steinway grands we will be representing for him.  There will be more to follow.   Everything is priced VERY fairly, but we will also entertain respectful and serious offers on any of these instruments.  But understand this...  once these individual pianos are sold, there will be no more.  This is the end of an eraa, and these last pianos are truly One-Of-A-Kind instruments.  We are both ecstatic to be chosen to display these final pieces, and very saddened by his retirement.  The piano industry needs more people and craftsmen like Alex and his father.  Again, this is a true honor for us.
